Sharing Web Resources

I continued to be nurtured by the E letter Well Being Australia.They had a lovely article this week titled The Essence of the Child". A quote I had to post from this follows;THE ESSENCE OF A CHILD
      'Every snowflake and child is unique, each one an amazing creation.
       All you have to do is stop and look to see the beauty in each one'
                                                                              Catherine Corrie

We as teachers really need to value each student for their unique personalities and ways of beings as well as ways of learning. She went on to say that it is too easy to focus our parenting or teaching of children around  'discipline' rather than 'relationship',and  that we must earn the trust and respect of our children and  never demand it.  Here is her suggestion for all of us teachers globally for this week;

"Don't waste any opportunity this week to appreciate  the pupils that cross your path . Wear a warm, genuine smile ,  and  greet every child you meet by name. Try to create a moment to chat to your pupils and get to know them personally. Let them know you see them and value them for who they are. (The sad reality is that you might be the only one to do that for them this week!) Enjoy lots of fun and light-hearted moments together in the classroom too!

I found this very enlightening after the harsh reality we experienced this week with our students being referred to as  human capital and  with dollar signs attached to their futures.

  1. An understanding of individual differences provides the foundation for recognizing normal behavior as well as extreme differences among children. As educators, we should see each child as an individual with his or her unique strengths and abilities, and respect their differing preferences as well. Moreover, we should teach children to appreciate their own uniqueness.

  2. Children are unique in their own way and I try to encourage my students to be themself. As an educator I try to give my students a lot of attention because you never know what they are going through so I show them love and appreciation daily.
