I do
believe choosing a research topic is the hardest part of this project. In our discussion,
I was interested in brain development and how this affects gender differences.
After reconsidering the limitations of my knowledge on this subject, I decided
to change my topic to literacy
development in young children and how this is enhanced through a language rich
environment. When I consider dividing this topic into three subtopics the
first topic I would choose would be; how
reading daily with children enhances their literacy skills. My second
subject would be; how phonological awareness increases literacy
skills in young children; and thirdly; how
recognizing letter names and letter sounds enhances literacy development. I
believe these would all be pertinent for research is essential in order to uncover
and enable the emergence of new understandings, insights and
knowledge, as well as enable practitioners to rethink what they do, how they do
it, and how this affects children and their families"(Mac
Naughton,2010,p.3&5). We as early childhood educators biggest concern is to
make certain that each and every one of our learners is ready and able to be
successful when they enter Kindergarten and this requires literacy skills such
as letter knowledge, and recognizing letter names and sounds, phonological
awareness such as rhyming and alliteration and being able to write their names.
I am a strong advocate of literacy rich classrooms with integrated curriculum's and professional awareness around this in order to help all of our young
children to succeed in our educational system their life.
I still am very nervous about tackling research and would love any advice that you would bless me with.
Blog Assignment: Your Personal Research Journey
You have already taken significant first steps in your research simulation: You have reflected on general topics in early childhood that interest you, narrowed your focus and identified several subtopics, and decided which subtopic will be the focus of your simulations in the coming weeks.
Use the Blog, this week, to tell your colleagues about your chosen topic for the simulation and why you chose it. Write about your personal experience with this simulation process. Share any insights you have gained so far from constructing the research chart, and from any other element of this course. Ask your colleagues if they have any advice or insight that might help you with this process and/or with this course. As well, share resources if you can, and ask them to share resources with you.
By Saturday of this week, post your responses and/or questions. Let the topic suggestions in the paragraph above guide you.
By Sunday of this week, review your colleagues’ entries. For at least two group members, respond to their comments and/or questions.
When complete, submit the following:
- The link to your personalized blog (due on Saturday).
