Getting to Know Your International Contact - Part 2

I had a lot of fun this week reading over the e letter and checking out the facebook page for Early Childhood Australia. They really had an exciting week as they held their Early Childhood Australia National Conference in Perth. It looked very exciting with over a 1000 people attending.

Their e- letter (NQS PLP-e-newsletter) is charged with great articles, on this week was on the vital role of play in children s learning, as well as educators role in ensuring that children s learning is effective and meaningful for them.   Something that deepened my understanding of belonging was the simple reference in their e-letter saying that our sense of belonging is in part about both having things in common with others and being valued for who we are, for our uniqueness.

  1. Research has shown that play has a significant role in brain development. Play offers children an opportunity to solve simple problems, and helps to develop language and vocabulary skills, even in children who are non-verbal. The central role of the teacher is to create a caring environment in the classroom. An effective teacher helps children become effective learners by giving the children developmentally- appropriate tools to work with and room to question.

  2. Play is essential to the development because it contributes to the cognitive, physical, social and emotional well-being of children. Play is important to healthy brain development and very influential in the future success of our children.
