Consequences of Stress on Children's Development

I live with a man who survived child abuse both physical and emotional as a child. He suffers from the  emotional scars that he will carry with him for ever. The hurt and pain and that he felt in his heart as he asks himself how his mother could do that to him ,and questions if she loved him. The deep   cry in his heart, why the endless empty questioning of why didn't she love me and protect me as her son. How could   she ask the neighbor who was  a total stranger to come and whip her son, or when his stepfather was beating him so cruelly on his back that it bleed ,why didn't she stop him. He carries this pain as grown man. He suffers from post traumatic stress syndrome and became a addict for many years trying to run and hide from his inner pain. He has had some mental health help and some cancelling. He became an abuser himself in many of his female relationships. He was born and raised in Jamaica, where it was common and acceptable to beat your children I hope they have learned from their mistakes and have come to realize that this causes scars unseen that generations after generations will have to live with and that these invisible scars will pass onto their children and grandchildren for generations to come as they are almost impossible to heal. My husband also only received a elementary school education as he had dyslexia and had a terrible time reading. When his father left the family to go over seas my husband  was only seven and he had to drop out of school and help support his family.
